From today the requirement to return trucks every 8 weeks to the country of registration comes into force. The rule is part of the so-called Macron package, for which the Union of International Carriers is organising a press conference in Sofia today. The announced topic is “Mobility package – is this the end of the Bulgarian transport business”.
The executive director of the union, Yordan Arabadzhiev, told BNR: “At the moment there is still no clarity neither on how the control will be carried out nor on how it will be enforced, but anyway every 8 weeks our carriers will have to collect their vehicles, whether they are loaded or not, which will be a serious blow to the Bulgarian transport business.”
The posting requirement of the Mobility Package has also been in force since 2 February, because of which 9 countries, including Bulgaria, have lodged a joint complaint with the European Court of Justice to suspend the provisions. While awaiting its final ruling, our country filed again in October for the suspension of the package.
“We know that Bulgaria has filed an application to suspend the package until the court rules on the main case. At the moment, we have no information on what is happening with this lawsuit,” Arabadzhiev further commented
