Heavy snowfall caused accidents and power cuts in many places in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and there were two deaths in Poland due to the severe weather, the DPA reported.
Authorities in northern Slovakia declared a state of emergency in 27 municipalities. Several popular ski resorts were closed. Residents of Zilina and nearby towns, on the other hand, were urged to stay in their homes and go out only in case of extreme necessity.
Fallen trees in the Czech Republic left tens of thousands of households without electricity.
